A Review: The Lord of the Rings as Read by Andy Serkis
Great Storytelling by a Great Storyteller
Casting Andy Serkis as Gollum was one of the best decisions of Peter Jackson’s production of the Lord of the Rings trilogy movies. Serkis not only performed the motion capture of the riven creature Gollum but gave him his voice; a voice so perfectly projected that it is scarcely possible to think of the beastly halfling with any other voice.

Serkis is a renowned voice actor and uses those talents to voice the many characters of the Lord of the Rings which greatly enriches the latest audiobooks for The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. The tapestry of voices created by Serkis is so serenely presented and pleasant to listen to (when appropriate) that losing oneself in the grand tapestry woven by Tolkien is simply irresistible. Serkis’ reading voice as the great storyteller is simply mesmerizing. Listening to the complete trilogy takes over 60 hours, and not a moment of it is wasted; nay, it is a blessing to consume this masterpiece in such a medium.
If Serkis had been born in an older age, he may have been considered a bard of the greatest renown.
