Melody Memory

Will I be a note in your song?

Something you’ll remember and sing along?

Will I even be a note?

Even a rest?

Something you’ll see and think of me?

Something you’ll hear and wish I was near?

Maybe I’d be a measure, or even a verse.

Too much to measure up to, a note is just fine.

I’ll be happy if I refrain from building castles in the sky.

But wonder I must, the same as all of us,

If my song is in your thoughts

If my part in yours is held out for everyone to see,

Or tucked behind the melody.

When your memory is sung and legacy won,

Cheers to your name and all is done

Will I be a note in your song?
