Rules For Fresher Girls at NITH

Like most of the colleges in India, NITH has more rules and restrictions on girls as compared to boys... Oh! Girls :( After reading further and experiencing yourself, you will find many of the rules are regressive, suffocating, authoritative and prejudiced against the girls. But this is how it is if you have to stay in the hostel. You will get used to everything as time passes and in fact figure out the loopholes!

RULES FOR FIRST YEAR GIRLS

• For the first semester, every girl needs to report back in the hostel before 6 pm. Here, 6 pm means exact 6:00 PM, not even two or three minutes later.
• This schedule will continue for your entire 1st semester. Later on, 2nd semester onwards it will get changed according to your behavior all around the first semester. Most probably, it will get extended up to 8 pm.
• Before going to the college for classes or any other reason, you have to make an entry in the register with ‘OUT TIME’ and you have to close your entry after you come back to the hostel with ‘IN TIME’.
• You are supposed to address every worker and guard as “bhai ji” or “bhaiya”, not Uncle /their name. They get kind of offended sometimes.
• You can not go to the college on Saturday and Sunday without permission of hostel attendants when you are in 1st semester.
• If you need to leave the station for going home/or for vacations you must fill the out pass/gate pass and submit it to the MMCA office.
• OUT PASS for home is signed by the Warden i.e. the faculty in-charge of the hostel. You should fill and submit out a pass at least 2–3 days before your leaving date. Normally, the attendant takes filled out passes to the Warden on Tuesdays and Thursdays. She gets them signed by the Warden, then the student has to collect the signed out pass from the office and submit it to guard on the date of leaving.

Keep in mind:

• If you are going out of college for a trip with your friends/club, you need to get the OUT PASS signed for a visit to the home. It will be better if you explain to your parents that this is how it works here.
• Plan your home visits or trips at least a week before and submit out pass for signing accordingly.

THE PLACES/AREAS WHERE YOU CAN GO IN AND OUT OF THE CAMPUS IN 1ST SEMESTER:

• You can not go to the OAT (Open Air Theater). Most of the first year girls don’t even know about it. You will get to know about it a few days before your 1st cultural festival (in November end).
• You need not go to the college via The Bridge. Don’t try to pass through that area in 1st semester. You will be scolded if get caught by any guard (i.e Bhai Ji).
• You can go to any place from Gate 1 to SBI Bank except OAT and teacher’s residence. You are not allowed to go beyond KBH (1st-year boys hostel).

Oh! Oh! Saturday Outings:

• If you need to go outside the campus. i.e Hamirpur, for shopping or any other reason (wandering in the nearby places or hanging out with friends), you can plan for Saturdays.
• Every Saturday all the girls willing to go will be taken in the college bus for 3–4 hours to Hamirpur.
• You have to fill OUT PASS form and make an entry in the REGISTER before leaving. You will get a token which you have to return when you come back to the hostel.
• You will be dropped at Gandhi Chowk and picked up from the same.
• Buses leave for the market at around 11 am and pick up around 3 pm. (Please confirm the timings with hostel attendants and be ready accordingly.)
• In case you missed the bus for returning to campus, you can come back by public transport and explain the attendants about it “if they ask”, accompanied by a scolding.

AFTER YOUR 1ST SEMESTER (JANUARY ONWARDS):

• You can go outside your college/hostels anytime before 8 PM.
• For town outings, you just have to:
• Fill an OUT PASS form that you will get from the guard at hostel’s MMCA office.
• Make an entry in the town register.
• Get it signed from the attendant.
• Submit it to the gate and make an entry in the register. You will get a token which you have to return when you come back to the hostel.
• Security Guards might ask for your identity proof sometimes. So, make sure to take Aadhar Card or College ID along with the token.
• On your return, you have to close your entry at Gate 1. Then submit the token at the hostel and close the entry in the register.

Special notes :p

• Try to go outside the college in a group of 2 or more girls rather than going alone in the starting few months.
• Try to maintain a friendly good image with the attendants. It takes time adjusting with the rules.
• You might want to rebel against many but in that process don’t get yourself in trouble. Do put forward your point but in a polite manner.
