Contemporary is king in kitchens and baths, according to this report from Arianne Nardo of The Editor at Large. Nardo took to the aisles of KBIS to ask design insiders about the styles and themes that really stood out.

As we found in the 2017 NKBA Design Trends Survey, Nardo learned contemporary styling featuring clean lines and built-in accessories continues to dominate. Gray and white remain the top color schemes, though blue’s popularity is rising according to both trendspotters at KBIS and NKBA survey respondents. Integrated technology and the “connected kitchen” also scored big. Check out what KBIS attendee Nate Berkus told Nardo about kitchen trends:

As with kitchens, contemporary and transitional styles are the go-to choices in the bathroom. White, off-white and gray still rule, but pops of colors are starting to show up. Just like in the kitchen, blue is on the rise, and, according to the survey, younger designers are opting for violet and purple. Technology is on everyone’s minds — smart toilets, a spa-like ambiance and radiant floor heating are some of the emerging trends seen on the show floor. Hear more from our KBIS experts below:
