Whenever I think of that altercation, it lifts me up
The day of the Montgomery, Alabama, boat dock engagement was iconic for African Americans. The incident produced some of the funniest TikTok videos I have ever seen. I have watched them at least 15 times.
I was at the hairdresser's when the Montgomery Brawl videos hit social media. I got texts from my son, friend, and husband. The texts were the ruckus on the dock in Montgomery, Alabama.
The brawl started because some people parked their pontoon boat in the space reserved for the commercial riverboat. The riverboat waited for forty-five minutes while the crew attempted to find the owners of the pontoon boat so they could move it.
The owners of the pontoon heard the pages and ignored them. When the boat sent the officer over to find them, they became enraged and attacked him with multiple people. As they attacked, he threw his hat in the air and went to work to stop them. The Hat signal caused other Blacks around him to join to save him, as the boat owners were wrong.
I look at the memes from that time to make myself feel better when life comes by to slap me in the face because I am a minority. I…
