We’d like to introduce Elizabeth Wafler, one of our Author Accelerator members. Elizabeth recently found an agent for her novel A Cleft in the World. We invited her to sit down for a little interview to talk about her experience. So without further ado, here is Elizabeth!

Q: Okay, Elizabeth, can we have the basics about your project and your book coach?

Elizabeth: My book, A Cleft in the World, is a romantic women’s fiction novel. I worked with book coach Sheila Athens.

Q: How long did you spend querying this manuscript?

Elizabeth: I spent 2 months querying.

Q: What pitch formats did you use for approaching agents (e.g. conferences, online contests, cold pitching)?

Elizabeth: I used query letters and that is the format that ultimately landed me my agent.

Q: Would you be willing to share your query letter with us?

Elizabeth: Yes.

Q: What attracted you to the agent you signed with?

Elizabeth: My agent is renowned for representing women’s fiction and romance.

Q: Will you be doing any work on the manuscript before it goes out on submission, and if so will your agent help you revise?

Elizabeth: Yes, I will be doing some work on the submission and my agent will help me with those revisions.

Q: What advice do you have for writers approaching the pitch stage?

Elizabeth: Persevere and don’t take rejections personally. Pray a lot. Don’t read anything in to the form rejections. It’s really all about an agent personally connecting with your work. You don’t want an agent who isn’t excited about your work. If your work is polished and well written, the right person to champion your work will come along.

Q: Where can people follow you and your writing journey?

About Elizabeth Wafler

Elizabeth Wafler’s passion for a story told with heart led her to write her own fiction. A former teacher, she is the author of three novels, A CLEFT IN THE WORLD, GEORGIE GIRL and IN ROBIN’S NEST. She serves as Director of Craft/Education Programs for the Women’s Fiction Writers Association, and is represented by Pamela Harty of The Knight Agency.

A former teacher of twenty years, Elizabeth lives in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia with her husband and cairn terrier, Mirabelle. She can often be found at a local farmer’s market in search of the perfect bouquet or heirloom tomato, or at one of the area’s beautiful vineyards enjoying a glass of Virginia wine.

Elizabeth is currently outlining her fourth novel.

Thanks so much for taking the time to talk with us, Elizabeth. And again, congrats on your huge accomplishment!
