We’d like to introduce Veronica Gutierrez, one of our Author Accelerator members. Veronica recently finished her manuscript. We invited her to sit down for a little interview to talk about his experience. So without further ado, here is Veronica!

Q: Okay, Veronica, can we have the basics about your project and your book coach?

Veronica: My book, As You Look, is a mystery. I worked with book coaches, Erin Lindsay McCabe and Dawn Ius.

Q: How long did you work with Author Accelerator on this manuscript?

Veronica: I have been working on this project with Author Accelerator for 2 years.

Q: How does it feel to have finished?

Veronica: Finishing a manuscript feels GREAT! Sending it out to beta readers feels like watching a bird fly after nursing it to health. I miss it. Having the story for the sequel brewing makes it easier.

Q: What did you do to celebrate?

Veronica: I did a happy dance!

Q: What’s next for your book?

Veronica: After feedback from beta readers, I’ll start querying. Jennie’s
session on query letters was very helpful! I’m having my letter, 2-page synopsis, and first chapter reviewed by an agent for feedback as well.

Q: What are the next steps in your writing career?

Veronica: I’ve been setting up media platforms and will work on Dana Kaye’s approach to building an author brand. I’m also researching publishing options and business of being an author. But I will also tap into my Author Accelerator notebooks to get started on a sequel and plan to sign up for book coaching again in March or so.

Q: Why would you recommend coaching?

Veronica: The Story Genius Workshop came at a perfect time when I was ready to get serious about a story I’d worked on years ago. I had 50 pages at the time, some of which survived with great help from Erin McCabe.

My book coach embraced my story and provided perfect input to keep me writing, learning, and improving. I still hear her version of “Show, don’t tell” as I revise. One of the best decisions I ever made as a writer was to sign up for Author Accelerator’s book coaching program with her.

Dawn Ius also provided “fresh eyes” and a quality manuscript review and edit that helped me get to the finish line.

I’m lucky to have a wife who’s a great proofreader and beta readers who are willing to answer a lengthy questionnaire for honest feedback. I love it when beta readers come back with positive comments on passages I focused
on with my book coach. I also greatly appreciate their suggestions on improvements.

Q: Do you have anything you would like to share about the coaching process or your coach specifically?

Veronica: I highly recommend the Story Genius Workshop for anyone just getting started on a novel. I also recommend investing in Author Accelerator’s book coaching program for personal feedback from someone who will be just as enthusiastic about your story as you are.

Thanks so much for taking the time to talk with us, Veronica. And again, congrats on your huge accomplishment!
