Oscar Movie Review — Florence Foster Jenkins

Nominated for — Best Actress and Costume Design

Plot — NYC heiress Florence Foster Jenkins dreams of singing at Carnegie Hall. Unfortunately, she has a terrible singing voice.

Impressions

  • Hugh Grant plays Meryl Streep’s husband and a total reversal of Hollywood trends he happens to be 11 years her junior rather than the more typical Sean Connery — Cathrine Zeta Jones age gap.
  • While La Streep is always great, this movie was… not up to her talents.
  • Watching a movie where a mega rich lady is able to pursue a dream she is categorically unsuited for was less entertaining this Feb than it might have been otherwise.

Favorite Quote — “People may say I couldn’t sing, but no one can ever say I didn’t sing.”

Rating — 1 Broken Grammy Award
