In Hungary now, I’m here to report
Of a National Animal of a different sort.
The Turul flies as their National Beast
From in a dream where it was first released.

To a dreaming Queen the Turul was sent
To protect her baby wherever he went —
To keep him strong, to keep him hardy,
Like literary savant — Joe Váradi.

In India behold the Bengal Tiger
With a gerrrrr much louder than my gerrrr.
Officially listed as charismatic
He strikes a pose quite dramatic.

The paparazzi scramble to snap pictures
But don’t hang around to be seen as fixtures.
If you hear a Bengal don’t turn around
Just giddy up — giddy up — straight to town.

In Japan the National Fish is Koi,
And are they flashy? You bet! Oh boy!
They are often kept in koi ponds
Where they remain — not vagabonds.

I am an old man who loves to write - to entertain, to produce a chuckle, and occasionally make a point I think is worth making - and sometimes all three!
