A Not So Unique Idea

Advice for young writers. Pass it on.

Unique, not “very unique.”
The very does not belong.
Unique it is. Period.
In this way keep it strong.

Get it? When it’s unique
there’s nothing like it. See?
The very, then, adds nothing.
That’s not just my decree.

As the dictionary defines it
it’s “unlike any other,”
as generally for most folk
you can have but one birth mother.

So cut it out, young writer,
“very unique” is a mistake.
Pay attention when you edit,
throw that “very” into the lake.
