A Pathfinder For Our Time

A poem of hope and belief

To get us through our darkest times
When we are lost and can not find
A path back to a calmer way
We expect our leaders to have their say.

Now a man who stutters utters truth
As he takes over from the uncouth
Messages and manners of recent past.
Are we on the right path at last?

This new one, even through his mask,
We can tell, no need to ask,
He has suffered. We could trace
The worried furrows on his face.

He has known true suffering,
(To far too many a familiar ring).
He tells us our own losses and regrets
And sorrows we will not forget.

But there will come a time indeed
When memories will hark a different heed.
Though our sorrows will not be replaced,
In time they’ll draw a smile to our face.

So now we are due a better time
That I believe he’ll help us find —
A path to heal our nation and ourselves,
A leader who will make us well.
