A Surprise Proposal in Public
An Abecedarian poem
Adrenalin pumping through my veins
Busking above the noise of trains
Covert operation at Grand Central
Dramatic & intercontinental
Edgily, I played on the guitar
Floyd’s single ‘Have a cigar’
Grim selection if you ask me
However, it was the code key
Identifying the quarry we sought
Japanese girl, hair in a topknot
Khaki blouse and torn black jeans
Like a model from the magazines
My son met her in Tokyo
Not so very long ago
Obviously romance transpired
Persisted and grew inspired
Quickly reaching this stage
Relationship had come of age
She had now flown to the US
Tactfully invited by him, I guess
Ulterior motive was to propose
Valiantly at the main concourse
With all of us acting gamely
Xenial bunch, all friends and family
Yearning to see the moment of truth
Zestful union of inter-racial youth
Inspired by Susannah MacKinnie and Desiree Driesenaar to write an Abecedarian.
