Early today
Wife said “No foreplay.”
Her objection?

Kids homework may
Block parents pathway
to affection.

Kids led astray.
My sly sleep-time play.
Misdirection.

Approached doorway
Saw through négligé.
Sheer perfection!

I stepped her way
Was about to say
Nice selection.

When son’s waylay
Stopped-cold hot headway
Disconnection.

“Dad, my essay
If not filed Friday
School rejection.

To wife’s dismay
Kids needs still outweigh
Love connection.

Sighing “OK.”
I quick put away
My excitement.

A Milk Carton Haiku companion to Jane Vogel’s “Dad Winked” continuing Joe Váradi’s not so subtle Call to Action.

And the musical companion has got to be “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction”:

No Crime in Rhymin’

poetry that dares to be funny, edgy, irreverent
