The rhyming lines you will find below, contain the story of Eddie as written by Mitch Albom in the novel, The Five People You Meet in Heaven. But don’t worry the rhyme below will not steal any joy, if you plan on reading the book itself. Because the magic lies elsewhere ❤

There was once a man named Eddie,
As a repairman his hand was steady
He worked at the country fair,
Although his jaw was not so square

Children flocked to him from yonder
Over the giant wheel he ponders
He listened to the machine’s sounds
All his life, to the country fair, has remained bound

In an accident Eddie is found dead
Leaving the dirty soil red
Goes to the heaven without a word said
The story in heaven is henceforth read

Five people from his life, Eddie has to meet,
Who explain Eddie, his life’s deed
The blue man tells Eddie about circumstance,
and how Eddie killed the blue man, by chance

Eddie learns to forgive, from the old lady Ruby
But in the realm of heaven, Eddie is still a newbie
His young army captain, a truth confesses,
How in the war, with Eddie’s leg he messes

Next in line is Eddie’s love Maggie,
Even after death, she doesn’t look shaggy
It is found in heaven, that their love is not lost,
Maggie and Eddie loved each other, at all cost

After meeting four people, Eddie is still puzzled,
Because his life in the country fair was so very muzzled
He was haunted by a dream,
Of a little burning girl’s scream!

Dreaming of the little girl, Eddie has aged,
Oh but what a surprise, the Almighty has staged!
Eddie faces the burning girl,
With all her pretty curls!

Through the burning girl, Eddie’s final lesson is taught
Meaning of Eddie’s life is now all caught
Keeping children safe was his penance,
and for that, children called him Eddie Maintenance!
