The batsman took his stance and stared
intently down the track.
The bowler turned, began his run,
and icily glared back.

He reached the crease, released the ball,
it thundered down the pitch.
The batsman raised his bat and gave
a slightly nervous twitch.

The ball bounced unexpectedly,
the batsman wet his jocks,
A missile hurled at lightning speed
flew straight into his box!

sank slowly to the ground.
He held back tears, although his moans
were heard by all around.

Five minutes passed, and then at last
a show of strength and might —
he dragged himself back to his feet,
to show he was alright.

The fielders soon all took their place,
just as they’d learned in training.
The umpire grinned and then announced:
“Let’s go — one ball remaining!”
