Men are …

a guilt trippin' love ramble

Since time immemorial, a rule of thumb
That women are the wise ones and men are scum

No, not all men, not all of the time,
But most are lowly bottom-feeding slime

You see …

we’re bio-engineered to chase loose screws,
(yeah, we know, we know, it’s no excuse)

Then there’s our pesky habit to explain,
Enough to drive our better halves insane

We built a world and appointed men kings,
As for equality — we left in a few kinks

But …

here’s the thing, ladies, we’re not pure evil,
Not mere crop-devouring boll weevil

Look past the budding bravado and bluster
There’s a boy cowering beneath the thin lustre

A wide-eyed child who looks and reaches higher
Seeks gentle hands to lift him from his mire

[Sigh] …

Knows those hands are different, more adept than his,
Looks back on himself — sees something amiss.

Quoting the classics: our intentions are good,
Hold on — please, don’t let us be misunderstood!

Thanks for the inspiration, Stephanie Jackson
