Not a Poem

a poem

This is not a poem
There’s no ballad burbling here.
No rhyming scheme
No thoughtful theme
No alliteration, dear.

This is not a poem
Not a trochee near the place.
No euphony
No imagery
Floating vowels in bouillabaisse.

This is not a poem
Lest you think so otherwise.
It’s just some words
In packs and herds
Paragraphs in woolly guise.

Never did I love you
I don’t miss you in the least.
Your life and mine
Not intertwined
So ecstatic I’m released.

This is not a poem
Or apology or ode.
Deeds done and said
Are good and dead
No grim eulogy is owed.

This is not a poem
And these words do not express
Unspoken parts
Of broken hearts
Split apart by thoughtlessness.

This was not a poem
There was no emotion here
No testament
Of sentiment…
Eye shall shed no single tear.
