Paralysis: an Analysis

Some verses on neurosis

I do not want to live just yet.
I want to fritter and forget.
I want to stare at screens, to scroll
Through weeks and months, to reach no goal.
I’ll flit about from place to place,
A passive look upon my face,
A tint of fear in both my eyes,
Whilst coveting most any prize.
I hope to passively achieve,
For if I don’t, my dreams I’ll grieve –
But if I make an effort, I
Might fail; as such, I will not try.

Potential is my middle name;
To squander it would be a shame!
But I won’t rush it — this I know:
To let myself evolve and grow,
I must not act with any haste,
Lest said potential go to waste –
So untapped passions linger in
My thoughts, and prickle at my skin.
Some other time, I’ll know pure bliss,
And face my fears — I’m sure of this!
For now, I’ll hide while I await
Success; there’s no use tempting fate.
