Relentless

An ode

I know I treat you badly
For you I’ve no desire
But you always come right back
It’s your relentlessness I admire

I pull you this way and that
I’m impressed by your pluck
I smother, I cut you down
You stay, you stubborn f*#%

My morning greeting — a razor blade
You never give up, nope, no
You return to me like always
Won’t leave me naked and alone

Ahh but I see why now…
It’s because you need me, true
Without me you are nothing
Only grow if I feed you

You prey upon my body
And you invade my skin
And for you, unwanted body hair,
I have to thank my kin.
