All golden metal, glass and chips;
see sparks fly around his fingertips.
Those flashing eyes, the cheery grin —
‘Good day,’ he says, ‘come in, come in.’

His easy manner never fails;
he’s programmed with a million tales,
can chat about what’s on TV
whilst shaving you so carefully.

New customers stepped in, alarmed,
but robo-barber gently calmed.
His haircuts were precise, correct
and that was how he gained respect.

His barber shop is always open,
the background music’s Strauss or Chopin,
appointments never running late,
they’re always tranquil and sedate.

But now and then ‘midst growing fears,
a client simply disappears.
Who knew a robot could be vicious?
But my — those hot pies are delicious.
