Stars On My Plate

--

Star fruit, photo and fruit by Christyl Rivers,

Stars in the paper are driving gossip
Meghan Markle drives our ire up
Political stars are even worse
Cuomo, Gaetz, they blaze perverse

Stars in the sky are hard to see
Outshone by capitalist proficiency
Our consumption clicks on so many lights
We lit crisis fires and blight our nights

A star is bigger than 10,000 Earths
So no stars note our puny births
But some stars fall in five petaled flowers
And some in fruit, grace my breakfast hours

For these stars on my plate, fruit of our labors

I thank my lucky stars — and neighbors
