There’s this kid who’s in my class
and he makes the others laugh.
By telling of his strangest dream
And you will soon see what I mean.

He wants to sail the Seven Seas
be a captain with expertise,
despite being afraid of the ocean
he says it’s the terrible motion.
The feeling of swaying to and fro
just makes him want to throw.
In spite of his watery fear
his dream is crystal clear.
He calls himself “Swashbuckling Sid”
and proudly shows us his pet squid.

One day we went on a class trip
to see an old navy war ship.
Sid was so excited to see the boat
he got tangled in his own coat,
but when the jolly day came to pass
the captain had a surprise for the class.
He was going to take us out to sea
and everyone cheered with glee.

We set off at quite a pace
you shoulda’ seen Sid’s face,
he was a nice shade of green
and the deck? No longer clean.
I felt bad for the poor guy
as tears dropped from his eyes,
realising he couldn’t live his dream,
something we had all foreseen.
He was never going to be a sailor
not a sea dwelling navigator.

As Sid leaned over the port side
clearly not enjoying the ride.
The captain came over to see
why we weren’t so carefree.
I told him Sid was a bit upset
because he was having to forget,
his dream of being a sailor
I swear Sid’s face got paler.
The captain took in the sight before him
I swear he muttered, “Sailor Jim.”
Then he eased Sid from the railing
saying, “I know how to get you sailing!”

He took Sid to the top of the ship
I had to run to catch up quick.
We passed through several passage ways
with Sid trying not to sway,
and ended up at the ship’s helm
it was enough to overwhelm.
But Sid looked ecstatic
like a true navy fanatic
as he stared at the wheel in awe
what happened next made me guffaw!

The captain told Sid to take the wheel
and Sid gave a happy squeal
as a sailor moved out of the way
Sid was now in charge of HMS Hemingway!
I have never seen him so delighted
it was a privilege to be invited
to steer a ship of such prestige
Sid would never want to leave.

The captain suddenly gave a laugh
as he grinned like a giraffe.
“Sid have you not realised?
Right before our very eyes.
You have stopped being seasick
it is a truly wonderful trick.
For when you are in control of a vessel
your mind and stomach don’t wrestle,
leaving you free to sail the Seven Seas
without motion sickness disease!”

Sid stared at the captain in amazement
as he realised he could control his ailment.
“So, I can sail across the Seven Seas?”
“If that is what you want to do?”
“Oh yes, yes please!”
