The Magic of a New Year we all say,
another chance, for another day.

Confetti falling on empty streets,
parade of Ghosts from infected sheets.

Remembering “Auld Lang Syne,”
Life and death and we pray to the Devine.

Pain and grief under our masks,
while fear and faith stifles our tasks.

Human connection now electronic,
interactions at the speed of sonic.

Happy New Year we all wished,
while tiny germs killed and flourished.

Life as we thought it always was,
can’t help you survive and that’s because.

Vaccinations of survivals promise,
but, still remains the doubting Thomas.

Hope in the New Year we all have,
with compassion and care a soothing salve.

Patsy Starke, 01/03/2021, a year to hope.
