’Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
could be heard the stirrings and rustlings of Bob the mouse.

He raced to look in the cloakroom, then under the stairs.
Oh, why didn’t his housemates keep their boots in pairs?

This was such a night, such a glorious, sparkling night —
he had to make the most of it in shining, icy flight.

Ah ha! He spotted his quarry! Delighted, he pounced
on his skates, grabbed them up and into the night he bounced.

As he raced along frozen pathways through the whisper of snow,
he gave a thumbs-up to his pals chuffed with their snowcat show.

They were new to the area, from the big city imported —
so pleased their winter quarters were all sorted.
