When Book Club Stops Reading…Popcorn Starts Popping…and maybe, “Oh no!”

…what in the world is happening to us?

The word “zoom” is
one d away
from doom’s showbiz
…reading’s segue.

Screens lure us in
books are closing
we’re discussin’
decomposing.

We’ve eschewed lit
in favor of
our hypocrite
for shows we love!

“No books!” we wrote.
Club’s not forlorn!
Grab the remote
and pop some corn!

NOTE: Yesterday, after the people in my book group finished discussing Mary Reynolds Thompson’s book, Reclaiming the Wild Soul: How Earth’s Landscapes Restore Us to Wholeness, we made an interesting decision about the meeting we’ll have next month:

WE ARE NOT GOING TO READ A BOOK.

We are going to choose a movie, a documentary, and a series on one of the entertainment channels and share our thoughts about what we will view.

You know that joke about “my drinking club also reads books?” Well…what are we now?

It’s not even a question of “is the book better than the movie?” … it is stop the reading, forget the book, just go watch.

The pandemic has changed a lot of things in our lives. Has it now infected reading and books?
