You and I are
destined to collide.
This sidewalk is
just enough wide
to barely miss
hitting your side.
This awkwardness
is amplified
since we met on
a tour guide
last year.
It’s certified
that the two of
us have died
from this moment
on the inside.
I don’t know your
name yet I tried
to give you a
smile but I cried
internally when
your face shied
from my face. This
common untried
situation is
like genocide.

Social genocide.

I’m petrified
to say hi. I’ll
put this aside.
then I will sit
by my bedside
recounting this
awkward tongue-tied
moment.
