I’ll be riding my bike
Remember when you were young and old people would ask you what you wanted to be when you grew up?
I know we told them our dream of being an astronaut or a footballer or a concert pianist, but those were not “realistic” jobs, just fanciful dreams, they wanted to know what job we would do. I guess they knew that no matter what we might dream, we’d just end up working in a “normal” job because all we humans do is work.
But what if you lived a life without “work”. Who or what would you then be?
Work
You know Work, we’ve spent a lot of time together. In fact, I’ve spent more time with you than I have with my family, my friends and my bike. I am grateful of course, where would I be today without you? I’ll admit it though, at first you were just a bit part of my life, something I had to do to get my parents off my back. Although that’s not strictly true, we did spend some time together when I was still at school and in return, you did give me money, teasing me, luring me at such a young age. But as a kid, all that money was mine and I could spend it on whatever I wanted. So I did.
Then when I left school you were still there for me, far more interesting. I could eat sweets whenever I wanted, I only ever went to one class, and no more shit from the fat physics teacher. And…
