How CRISPR Will Revolutionize Our Food Supply
The transformation is already happening, you (probably) just don’t know about it
I’m guessing when you hear the term CRISPR, your first thought isn’t about the food in your pantry.
The news stories that mention CRISPR are nearly always about human health and disease — how the new technology has the potential to cure genetic disorders that were once thought incurable.
To be honest, I don’t know a whole lot about the medical field. I ruled out all medical careers once I started having a fainting problem as a teenager.
But I do know a lot about food!
And CRISPR has already begun crossing over into the food industry.
There’s even one CRISPR-edited salad mix on the market and many more experimental trials taking place.
And for the nerds out there like me, I thought it would be interesting to share just how CRISPR is being applied to the food supply.
You’ll notice that within this article I’ll mention foods that are already on the market, research projects underway, and some of my own ideas. I’ll try to delineate between the three, so you know what’s my opinion and what’s already being done.
