Brand Spotlight — Huckberry

Pardon my marketing side coming out, but one of my favorite online shops rebranded their logo and I’m a huge fan of the upgrade. If you haven’t heard of Huckberry before, I’m very excited that I can introduce you to them.

They’re an online, members-only, store that lives by their motto, “Gear for today, adventure for tomorrow,” and of course follow that up with their hashtag, #seeyououtthere. They also curate badass brands that perfectly align with their motto.

You can read their full story here, but it’s an incredible story of a few guys starting something from scratch that they truly believed in. You have to respect that hustle.

Now, they have a clean and fresh logo to go with the awesome brand they’ve created with their bare hands.

Marketing 101 - a logo isn’t a brand, it’s a small part of one.

Marketing 201 - a logo has never made a company go out of business, but a good looking one never hurts.

They even have a group of ambassadors that embody their brand. No, not like those douchebags selling protein powder coupon codes. These are athletes, explorers and philanthropists. Talk about life goals.

This rebrand is a perfect time to take a look at some of my favorite items currently available at their store

Clothing

I constantly preach about having a navy blazer you can throw over anything. I’ve found yet another option to choose from. No excuses not to have one.

I’ve been hesitant on the denim jacket trend, but I’m digging the single pocket and the medium washed denim that’s used in this one. Dress down with a button down and chinos, or rock out with it over a t-shirt and jeans in a different wash.

Camp collars are all the rage right now, especially with an expressive pattern. I like the grey and white pattern that’s unique, but not to in your face.

Soft, durable and made in the U.S.A. The heavier fabric is great for cooler summer nights. Flint and Tinder is an easy go-to for your next all-time favorite T-shirt.

Shoes

I’ve been on a never-ending search for a casual loafer to wear with shorts and pants this summer. This is currently my favorite option.

This is a better business casual option for a loafer. Perfect for those casual Fridays when you head straight from the office to the happy hour.

Buy your boots before you need them. Buy ’em now, prep ’em for harsher weather, store ’em until you need them. The grey/tan color-way works great with either jeans or chinos.

Danner makes some of the best working and best looking hiking boots. I’m pretty obsessed with these boots, and it’s their best option based on price and functionality.

Fitness/Gym

Switch out your ratty gym shorts that you’ve had since college, with these upgraded one’s. They work in the gym and for a hungover Sunday brunch.

Simple, well-made and incredibly comfortable. I’m also a huge fan of the curved hemline and oddly enough the length of the sleeves are great.

A flashy cross trainer that’ll help you stand out in a good way at the gym. Also gets the job done for any workout.

I’ve owned a pair of these for almost a year now, and they’ve held up fantastically. Great for only a few miles, or a full marathon.

You’re a grown up. Have a bag you’d be okay stashing by your desk at work. This bag is not too large, and has everything you’d need from a gym bag — shoe compartment, waterproof, side pockets, locker hook and external water pocket.

Home

Onsen towels originated as a Kickstarter project (That I proudly contributed too), and are exactly as advertised. Great towels that are soft and are quick to dry.

The perfect compliment to any movie night in your living room. This blanket is big, warm and hand-spun.

Yamakazi is a crazy affordable and high quality home goods brand. This side table is a solid piece to add next to your bed, in your living room or pair with a catch-all tray near your door to hold your keys, sunglasses and wallet.

Always losing your keys? Don’t have a good spot to leave your wallet, sunglasses or maybe even a spot to stuff your mail? This is for you. Put it on your fridge or, if you’re like me, your apartment has a metal door. It’ll take the stress out of running out for your day with everything in the same spot

I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that the Khuerig craze is slowing down. Treat yourself to a proper pour-over coffee. In the long run it’s so much cheaper than getting the pods, and your coffee will taste so much better. Learn how to make the perfect pour-over here.

Your non-stick skillet isn’t cutting it for cooking meat. A cast iron skillet gives your meat that proper crispy outside and tender inside. It requires a little more TLC, but this is a great brand and a great price.

Office

This journal has a little storage space for ripped out pages, and can be reloaded with new paper. No more worries of tossing that nice leather journal once it’s full. Leather gets better with age, this is the one to get to show that.

Developed in 1948 specifically for space travel, this pen is literally out-of-this-world (I’m not sorry for that pun). Get yourself the same pen that NASA trusts. Also a great conversation starter if your meeting starts to get boring.

Accessories

It’s summer. You need a decent pair of polarized sunglasses. Throw these on and you’ll immediately feel cool and ready for summer. Plus there known for being durable, but still looking higher-end.

An ideal workbag with proper storage inside and out. It’s a great color to not blend in with every other brown or black leather bag you see at your office.

I’m a huge fan of the minimal watch face with the rotating numbers. It has a classic vibe with an edgy upgrade.

Red Wing is known for their classic boots, but this slim wallet is made from the same All-American leather. I made the switch to a slim wallet a few years back and it’s made a huge difference. It forces you to really think through what you actually need to carry with you in your wallet: credit/debit card, some cash, drivers license and a few business cards.

Slightly less expensive as a pair of Bose wireless headphones, with equal sound quality. They have a simple design and don’t have any unnecessary frills.

It looks like it’s built for battle, and your bike helmet should be. Upgrade your commute to work with the clean and very protective helmet from thousand.
