Carlita and her husband take in kids from the neighborhood who have nowhere else to go. In addition to raising her own family of six children, Carlita has fostered 47 kids over the years.

If you meet her, she’ll laugh as she tells you how her husband threatens to divorce her if she brings home any more kids or animals. She knows it’s not true.

Though her own budget is tight, Carlita usually finds a way to set one more place at the table, both in her home and in the school cafeteria where she works. “There’s a lot of kids that go without eating around here,” she explained.

Carlita and her family live in Browning, a small, isolated town in northern Montana where as many as 1 in 3 kids suffer from hunger. That’s why No Kid Hungry is working in this community to end childhood hunger. We’ve helped Browning Schools, where Carlita works, reach every kid with school breakfast, and launched a summer meals program to feed kids when school is out of session.

With help from Carlita, and the many others in her community dedicated to improving the lives of children, we’re ending child hunger once and for all.
