Super Bowl Social Media Ends in a Different Endzone

Due to the Bronco Victory in Super Bowl 50 last night, there have been plenty of shares of pictures of Von Miller, Peyton Manning, and Brock Osweiller, but there are two pictures that continue to prevail in social media today, and both include Cam Newton. He has received shaming from his less than impressive press conference, but he has also received sympathy, as some people back him due to the fact that he lost and it’s hard to talk to media after something like that.

Every other share on my Facebook news feed today has been something about Cam Newton. It has opened a whole jar of worms on racism in sports, sportsmanship, and the conversation of Peyton Manning walking off the Super Bowl field six years ago without a handshake after his loss.
The biggest conversation that continues to trend is the fact that people won’t share the picture of Cam Newton smiling with Peyton on the field after the game because of his ethnicity, and therefore the entire American population that is disappointed with his post game press conference is racist. Never once did I think social media would turn into such a deep conversation like this from two pictures that have trended all day. It proves again that social media is so powerful, and when two powers like the Super Bowl and social media unite, it can have repercussions no one saw coming.
