The ability to read is arguably the most valuable skill that we learn as kids. Every book read provides us an opportunity to learn something new. Reading broadens vocabulary, exercises the brain, improves health, reduces stress, and gives us the ability to learn something new about ourselves.

The main question is when was the last time you read a book or a lengthy article in a magazine? Or do you prefer reading tweets, Facebook messages, Instagram posts? You could be missing out if you’re one of the many people who don’t read daily.

“Books are a uniquely portable magic.” ― Stephen King

We recommend books that offer a diverse range of topics to expand your knowledge, challenge perceptions, and help to grow personally. Remember, you don’t need to agree with everything you read because the most important part of reading is to get as many different perspectives as possible to form your own unique worldview.

Anyways, finding good books will take some time. That’s why we’ve put together this May recommendation list of must-read books to make choosing a good book easier.

1. Us Vs. Them: The Failure of Globalism by Ian Bremmer

Current affairs

Globalization proponents promised a future of increasing wages, newfound transparency, and the victory of liberal ideals. In a nutshell, globalization has created winners and losers. It’s a story of anger, resentment, and schism. It’s easy to hate populists such as Trump. But he didn’t invent the Us Vs. Them world that allowed him to win. Many citizens in the United States, Europe, and developing countries want reform. They also believe that the political and economic classes are unaware of the true consequences of globalization.

2. Collaborative Intelligence: Thinking with People Who Think Differently by Angie McArthur and Dawna Markova

Personal development

In the future, we will all collaborate to share our ideas, create them in collaborative teams, and bring them to life for the common good. But what will happen — in fact, the shift has already begun — is that society and the economy will find a happy medium between rivals fighting for the marketplace and rivals sharing ideas. And, if you want to succeed in this economy, you’ll need to develop your collective intelligence, or your ability to collaborate with others and generate ideas.

3. Until the End of Time Mind, Matter, and our Search for Meaning in an Evolving Universe by Brian Greene

Popular science

All in the universe is made up of particles arranged in various ways. And the same forces govern everything in the universe: evolution for construction and entropy for eventual death. You’ll follow the relationship between humans and the universe in this book, from our conception of how it all began to our best guess at how it would all end, and how we evolved to connect with the world around us in a whole new way. All in the universe will be subject to the same forces from the beginning to the end: evolution for creation and entropy for decay and eventual destruction.

4. Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World by Jack Weatherford

History

Western historians pay no attention to the Mongol Empire and Genghis Khan. When they do come up, it’s almost always in a negative light, with stories of violence and hostility. The story of Genghis Khan and his empire is interesting and needs to be revisited. It’s an important story to tell. This book reveals the real story of Genghis Khan, from his childhood, struggles to the creation of the first commercial empire to bind the European and Asian continents.

5. Game Changer: What Leaders, Innovators, and Mavericks Do to Win at Life by Dace Asprey

Personal development

If you want to better yourself, you must first comprehend what makes your body and mind work — your physical and mental operating system, to use a technical term. You’ll learn some of the basic concepts of biohacking, as well as some of the most useful applications, in this book. The concepts are based on an understanding of human biology and psychology, while the applications are based on interviews with 450 highly successful people conducted by the author, Dave Asprey. Unhelpful patterns of thoughts and behaviors centered on food, fear, and sex hold our bodies and minds back. We can break these patterns and improve our ability to produce, save, and deploy time and energy by learning how our bodies and minds function.

10. Failing Forward: Turning Mistakes into Stepping Stones for Success by John C. Maxwell
