I’ve seen so many headshots cross my desk from a wide range of photographers. Although styles change one thing remains consistent: preparedness.

No clothing item, shade of makeup, or prop beats being mentally and physically ready for your shoot.

With that in mind, I’ve put together a super quick list to help alleviate any stress before and during your Pretty Instant headshot shoot.

Mentally prepare — Think about this headshot as a promising business meeting. Come looking your best and ready to deliver.

Be hydrated — Dry lips are not your friend. Wiping or licking your lips during your shoot is pretty common, so please bring fresh lip balm, lip gloss, lipstick to do any touch-ups. Staying hydrated is a great way to keep dryness away, so be sure to drink plenty of water leading up to the shoot.

Be careful — A subtle application of makeup can soften up your skin and accent your facial features nicely. Make sure the shades match your skin tone, especially if your shoulders will be exposed.

Be aware — Constant screen usage is part of everyday life, but bloodshot eyes look bad in photos. Visine is your friend. Avoiding alcohol the night before your shoot also helps.

Be relaxed — Be yourself and you’ll crush it!

P.S.

Don’t forget to iron ! If you’re wearing something that wrinkles easily, don’t wear it in the car on the way to the shoot. Changing at the location is preferred.
