Governor’s School 1-Week In
Everything has been going very well at GSET, and although the classes are definitely basic, the experience is exceptional. I also managed to go bowling for the first time in my life. Sure enough, the programming teacher is unable to take me past the level of understanding I already have, and I have completed all homework and lab work before he is finished lecturing. However, for the other classmates (none of whom have done any programming worth mentioning before GSET) this is the perfect level. Luckily, I’ve been doing client work and solving actually difficult problems that I found on http://projecteuler.net.
The food here is very unhealthy, and I forgot to bring vinegar to detox from the chemicals they’ve been providing. I didn’t expect anything different, but it is still quite unfortunate. This is made even worse by the fact that during the summer their food selection is even more limited than during the school year. I’d definitely recommend bringing some healthy snacks to anyone attending.
Also, we took a great trip to the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga. We finished our first project as well, which they explicitly asked to keep secret.
I definitely would recommend GSET to many people, but if you have a lot of programming experience this is quite boring.
