Feeling the need to listen to rock music with a traditional Irish element to it? Well then, Flogging Molly is probably the best option you’ve got, and luckily it’s a great option as they’re experts at their craft.

Flogging Molly began in 1993 as a more-or-less glorified bar band playing weekly at an LA pub called Molly Malone’s (which is where the band took their name). The band formed under singer/guitarist Dave King, violinist Bridget Regan, bassist Jeff Peters, and drummer Paul Crowder. Over the next couple years they began solidify their style and grow a sizable fanbase from their weekly shows eventually leading to a live record in 1997.

In 2000, the band released their debut Swagger with King and Regan, who were by this time joined by Matt Hensley on accordion, bassist Nathen Maxwell, Bob Schmidt on mandolin/banjo, drummer George Schwindt, guitarist John Donovan, and Gary Schwindt on trumpet. Swagger is the only album from the band to feature a horn player as a full-time member.

After the release of Swagger, the band’s popularity only began to increase and the group quickly found themselves as major players in the 00s punk rock scene. So, with momentum on their side, they band recorded their follow-up Drunken Lullabies, this time with Dennis Casey on guitar replacing Donovan.
