Formed in 1991, Rancid has become one of the biggest punk bands around, leaving an indelible mark on the music scene with their high-energy sound and rebellious spirit. Founded in Berkeley, California, by Brett Reed (drummer) and previous Operation Ivy band members Tim Armstrong (vocalist / guitarist) and Matt Freeman (bassist), Rancid quickly rose to prominence as one of the most influential bands of the ’90s punk revival.

After their first album, Rancid’s lineup grew with the addition of guitarist/vocalist Lars Frederiksen. With their distinctive blend of punk, ska, and reggae influences, Rancid’s music became a rallying cry for disenchanted youth seeking an outlet for their frustrations and a voice against societal norms.

However, the band experienced its first significant member change in 2006 when drummer Brett Reed departed and was replaced by Branden Steineckert.

Over the years, Rancid’s music has remained true to their punk rock roots, characterized by raw energy, gritty lyrics, and catchy melodies. They have consistently addressed social and political issues, becoming a voice for the marginalized and disenchanted.
