Screeching Weasel, an odd band of ever-changing misfits, seemed always on the cusp of more mainstream success — through their Lookout! and Fat records years — but they never quite caught on to the same level as many of their peers, even if they remained influential for several bands that formed after them.

The band is part of the extensive punk scene in Chicago and is one of the more well-known acts to originate from the area. Having formed in 1986, the band predates many acts, especially those in the pop-punk genre, and has used their longevity to further cement the legacy through the years.

The group was originally begun by singer Ben Weasel (Foster), and guitarist John Jughead (Pierson). These two have been considered the core of the band, with several other members rotating in and out throughout the band’s long run and numerous breakups. As of 2009, Ben Weasel remains the only original member still continuing the band as he has essentially become the entire identity of the group.

Members of note for the band are Dan Vapid who played guitar and bass at various intervals, Dan Panic on drums from 91–96, Mass Giorgini on bass through the mid to late 90s, and Mike Dirnt (Green Day) on bass for one album.

The lineup currently consists of Ben, Mike Hunchback on guitar, Pierre Marche on drums, Zach Brandner
