NODR network: the new blockchain-powered CDN marketplace

Don’t forget to clap or leave a comment after the text; your opinion is very important for us.

Sharing economy phenomenon is very popular today as we see plenty of different online marketplaces grown from narrowly focused applications to global corporations. Behind the success of well known Uber or Airbnb lies a simple business idea of how to let ordinary people get additional income in a very comfortable way, as much as they want, when they want it. On behalf of Teleport Global AG, the Swiss-based company, operating Teleport Media and NODR projects, we are developing NODR network as the brand new online traffic marketplace with an exceptional difference from famous uber-like ecosystems.

Uberisation at a glance

This platform economy term refers to a highly tele-networked business to hit peak efficiencies in operations, providing highly economical and efficient services. The idea is then projected into the area of economic systems to speak of vehicles and drivers (in the Uber example) as an under-utilized capacity of existing assets or human resources, and then highly networked communications as a simple fact of economic reality, where then study of economic systems includes telecom in everything.

In simple words, any sharing economy ecosystem may organize uber-like customer to customer network to trade, to provide supply and demand, and to be run by a mediator under specific regulations.
Notable examples of uberisation include:
— Transport (displacing taxi companies such as ComfortDelGro and international equivalents): Uber (the company for which the phenomenon is named), GrabCar, Lyft, Careem (Dubai-based company), Ola Cabs (India-based company), Gett, Blablacar, Bike and scooter sharing companies like Jump bikes;
— The hospitality industry (rivaling traditional hotels and guesthouses): Airbnb, Booking.com, CouchSurfing;
— Streaming platforms: Spotify, Netflix;
— Project funding: Kickstarter, Indiegogo, GoFundMe;
— Retail: Craigslist, eBay;
— Services: TaskRabbit, Pickle, ElsiePic.

Uberisation has been criticized for its role in facilitating the decline of labor-intensive industries, and hence for threatening jobs, and also for state taxes revenue pinch.

However, the facts show the growth of adopters of uber-like business model thanks to digitalization and globalization. Why do people like it? Why it worth for business? Let’s have a look at Teleport Global AG operating two different, yet connected projects, Teleport Media, WebRTC live streaming technology, and NODR network, a blockchain-driven decentralized CDN.

CDN marketplace

Many sharing economy platforms are in fact peer to peer marketplaces. Also called “switch” marketplaces, sharing economy platforms’ users will characteristically switch between buying and selling services or goods, such as on Uber or Airbnb.

They also require market operators. In an online marketplace, consumer transactions are processed by the marketplace operator and then delivered and fulfilled by the participating retailers or wholesalers (often called drop shipping).

So this means we have to take into account two critical features to characterize the network we are about to build as the new marketplace: P2P system, and money flow control functions. Now let’s go up to the point.

We have created the idea of NODR network, and it is going to be the new blockchain-powered CDN marketplace.

Teleport CDN Marketplace

Teleport Global AG, our headquarters, is going to be a marketplace operator.
Online broadcasters such as Tamedia, Onet, Haxr, RedBull and many others are the customers of Teleport Media technology (which is working right now). They literally are going to take the internet bandwidth the nodes would lease to enhance the streaming quality and speed.

And NODR network nodes (software users) are going to be the suppliers.
The nodes will be rewarded with NODR tokens for the leased internet bandwidth that Teleport Global would distribute among the broadcasters to push online traffic to be at the highest quality and speed.

Is it a real marketplace? How is it uber-like? Let’s have a look a little more in-depth.

Uber-like not quite alike

We want to share our vision on developing NODR network as an Uber-like marketplace. We have pointed out several issues to discuss and compare because in some ways it is going to be really Uber-like, and in some NODR is entirely different: (1) entering the market (2) business regulations in terms of the license (3) the primary business tool.

(1) Someone believes that marketplaces unite existing stores or services into a mega-store, so if there is an already existing market of goods and services, an application-marketplace takes it over.

This may be true in a certain way. It has happened with Uber which appeared on a taxi drivers market worth billions and launched a new type of service supply. Uber has involved people on their own cars into the existing professional taxi drivers market. Now as we observe it today, Uber has spread worldwide working off taxi drivers companies.

Teleport Global is acting quite the same, as we aim to enter CDN market worth $10 billion today ($30 billion by 2023) and we are going to compete with regular servers-adopted CDNs. In fact, we are already in. Eventually, regular CDNs which cost lots of money and do not guarantee the streaming quality for the customers will go down to history. One day thanks to decentralized CDN technologies like Teleport Media, and even powered with blockchain, like NODR, Teleport-like CDNs will take over the market of media traffic delivery. It will happen anyway.

(2) Uber has also faced another problem: the app can’t enter the taxi market in some cities if the city benefits from taxi driving licenses sale, Paris for example. In the rest of the world, Uber takes the taxi drivers market over step by step. Why? Because it lets people earn money under suitable conditions, so while people like it, it will spread. Why not want it? =)

As we talk about CDN, comparing the two models, let’s come back to Teleport/NODR case. CDNs business do not require the license, in most cases. Even if it follows some regulations, it is not necessary to specify exactly how the server capacities were obtained — by regular servers or by the rent of the servers. Besides, no country’s legislation has approved blockchain or cryptocurrency regulation.

(3) So here we come to the point where we differ from Uber a lot: in Uber, one must work himself or herself to earn money — be a part-time taxi driver using his or her own car for that. In NODR, your smart devices will work for you, and it is the leading business tool. Smart devices + Internet bandwidth. When the world introduces driverless vehicles, then people would not have to manage time to drive cars themselves, just lease them via Uber. And get money for that. The autonomous world we are going to face soon. The point is that people will do whatever they want while money will be generated and earned by the things they own. NODR network is ready to offer this chance in 2019.

CDN market is ready for NODR

We at NODR consider that centralized CDN market is ready to be taken over by decentralized CDN marketplaces, and actually, it is happening right now. The first step was made long ago when the CDN market was divided between 4–5 key companies. The biggest is Akamai worth $10 billion with $2 billion in revenue. For Akamai-like global CDN companies in the relationship sellers/mediators/customers, the sellers were servers, or the CDN companies were sellers themselves. Mediators were even not required. This is different from NODR-like networks. So this is the key point — customers stay the same while the sellers are new. The broadcasters are the customers, and ordinary people all over the world are the sellers. The lifehack for the business model, in this case, is that with new sellers there is an opportunity to decrease the initial cost of CDN technology. All we have to do it to involve new sellers — more people with more nodes into the network.

One more thing to mention: in Uber, there are taxi companies, professional drivers and the ordinary people involved. Seems like a little mess. However, it makes sense. Hence there are no limitations to enter the marketplace. Same for NODR. We do not consider NODR network to be build only with personal nodes. Anyone can join the network of nodes: CDNs, companies, servers, desktops personal computers as well as any smart devices owned by one person or a group of people, incorporated or private. All they need to do is to download the software or an application and join the network.

The main message to the community of sellers and customers is simple of any sharing economy. As for the CDN market, there are plenty of customers: Pay TV, OTT, any online broadcasters, or online universities, online sports streaming, gaming industry, and many others. It is actually any channel, company or a platform which organize online streaming to be watched by a significant number of viewers at the same time. The amount of potential clients is larger than it can be evaluated or benefit from Teleport technologies today. This is the company’s global target, our global market.

Introducing NODR network, we must take into account the huge among of people willing to get additional income online. The stable coins which may be stored, exchanged or withdrawn as cash in any global currency. It means that the number of potential sellers is even more significant. All things considered, we at Teleport and NODR believe that we are about to launch the dream product.

NODR network: the new blockchain-powered CDN marketplace bird view:

— CDN market grows from $10 billion to $30 billion by 2023;
— Decentralized CDN is a new era of CDNs due to business digitalization;
— There are many different customers with different requests on the CDN market, and one of them is video broadcasting with video as 80% of all online traffic;
— Teleport Global has already launched Teleport Media WebRTC Live Streaming which improves the broadcasting with the audience growth by transferring the bandwidth into a controlled distributed network; the technology is adopted successfully within two years;
— Teleport Global is about to create a blockchain-powered decentralized CDN marketplace called NODR, an Uber-like business model where $10 billion of existing CDN market will slowly flow into people pockets as they provide NODR network with nodes (unused internet bandwidth via their smart devices);
— The entire ecosystem where peoples' smart devices = nodes offer NODR network the unused Internet bandwidth, that Teleport as a mediator offers to the customers = online broadcasters of any type;
— NODR marketplace, where Teleport Global AG is an operator of demand and supply, is a scalable marketplace and it is ready to introduce the stable tokens to be used as ecosystem currency needed to reward nodes. Token price volatility is going to be stabilized by tightening the value of tokens to the online traffic cost.
