No Justice No Pride
May 16 · 3 min read

As we get closer to the 50th anniversary of the stonewall Riots, No Justice No Pride plans to hold a two week long action camp that continues the radical legacies set forth by Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera.

We have 14 full filling days of workshops, screenings, performances and trainings being organized by members of the NJNP Collective and our amazing community partners; beginning on May19th! Find out more here!

This pride, despite calls from established mainstream LGBT Organizations, ie ‘Pride INC’ to honor the radical legacies from the Stonewall Riots on the 50th Anniversary, ‘Celebrate resistance’, ‘Pride was a protest’ and aiming their sights performatively at the Trump Administration; few will acknowledge that Marsha, Sylvia and others were sex workers who fought against criminalization and homelessness. In DC, it will be business as usual as Mayor Bowser’s continues to underfund our public and affordable housing initiatives while increasing funding to the police diversion programs that don’t work. With NJNP receiving dozens of requests weekly from community members seeking emergency housing, help with obtaining legal advice and support funds, support with meals or accessing medical services including for patient advocacy — our work is so much more vital to provide tools to DC’s trans and trans sex worker communities to further build the community power we need to keep each other safe. This Action Camp will prepare participants for the fight ahead in reclaiming these legacies, while learning new ways to support each other and keep eachother safe; with priority focus to trans people of color and former and current sex workers.

The action camp, Camp50 — Trans + Queer Actioncamp will feature workshops that range from choreography and how to plan a ball to learning critical political histories, how to organize and use direct action tactics, that will all lead up to NJNP’s June Mobilization that will feature a surprise direct action, Ball50; a Stonewall community kickback event and more.

Can you help make #CAMP50 a reality?

Our communities desperately need these tools and resources to survive. What’s more is we know for a lot of folks who can benefit the most from these events often aren’t able to attend due to travel costs, admission fees and the fact that often many working class, black and brown trans and queer people are more focus on spending that time obtaining resources for theirs and their loved ones day to day needs for this reason we are hoping to provide stipends for participants to attend.

Can you help us reach our goals? Breakdown on how the funds will be used below:

  • $6,200 — for Black and brown trans and queer facilitation and training stipends
  • $9,000 for participant stipends (Approx 25 people)
  • $1,182 for Venue costs
  • $2,200 for building and material costs.
  • $3,500 for NJNP Housing Expenses
