NJNP’s J28 Name Change Event
Are you a DC resident, Trans and need help with a name change?
Join NJNP on Jan 28th. This will not be your typical name change clinic. We are planning on bringing as many people as possible to get their name changed at once.

On January 28th, No Justice No Pride will be supporting Trans Community Members in DC in beginning their name change processes. Going through this process can be stressful and traumatic and it can take a long time, yet it is so so incredibly important to have your legal identity match your lived one. Having legal & identity documents associated with your dead name affects nearly every aspect of your daily life. It prevents people from voting, opening bank accounts, obtaining employment and emergency (and non emergency) medical care and opens people up to a whole range of criminalization and discrimination.

Volunteer Roles for Jan 28th.
Application Helpers — Were looking for folks (esp trans folks) who have experience with the name change process and can come and assist individuals doing questions.
Money People (people the day of who hands out money to people who need it for application and post office costs)
Drivers with cars — People with Cars who can assist with rides.
Carebears and General Support People — People who can help with potential runs to the fedex store for copies, people who can just be on sight to help emotionally support folks
Legal folks (lawyers or atleast confident around court stuff) that can help liaison with court officals

In addition to volunteer roles, we are asking groups and orgs to help with any or all of the following below. Orgs can sign on to support here.
Digital Partner — cohost facebook event, email your list, share on social media, etc
Contribute financially — we are covering individuals court fees and post office costs. This can run to be as much as $85 per person. Contributions can be made thru NJNP’s website or contact emmelia@nojusticenopride.org
Legal support — It would be helpful to have some friendly attorneys on hand on the day for odd questions.
Transportation — do you have access to a car or van? can you help provide transportation to folks on the 28th?
Organizing meals — Can your group or org commit to coordinating meals for volunteers and individuals on the 28th?
We are planning on financially sponsoring Name Change seekers. We have every intention on doing this with no questions ask. Each individual’s name change cost (not including later costs at the DMV) runs on average $85. We do not have any grant funding for this and are doing this because we believe it is a necessity for our community and fully believe this should be a no barrier process. Can you help us reach this goal by making a contribution?
