WASHINGTON, DC — While the DC City Council debated how much to increase the police budget by and cutting essential city services, leaving behind DC’s excluded workers; No Justice No Pride (NJNP) quietly opened two new safe houses for Black and Brown Trans and Queer people who are facing housing insecurity by the impacts of Covid19. This brings the number of safe houses NJNP has opened to five; without a penny provided by the local or federal government.

In 2018, NJNP started NJNP Collective Housing as a critically needed response for community members facing increasing levels of violence due to the passage of F.O.S.T.A / S.E.S.T.A. At the start, NJNP had rented a single community home for Trans people displaced by criminalization and state violence. Today, NJNP has grown to be a vital resource to DC’s Trans & Queer Community and the larger Sex Worker Activist network within the DC Area.

With five properties, collectively; having the capacity to house as many as 70 people a night this now makes NJNP one of the largest housing providers in the city. With only a shoestring budget and the strength of community, NJNP once again embarrasses ineffective City Leaders who have the power to provide housing to every district resident.

No Justice No Pride (NJNP) has been one of the few community groups providing dedicated support, mutual aid and care; to DC’s Transgender community. NJNP Collective housing, which was started by NJNP as a response to FOSTA/SESTA; provides long term and emergency housing to as many as 50 individuals a night.
