From festivals to food markets, this Catalonian city is a beautiful place to spend a little of your summer.

Aside from the Sagrada Familia and the sunshine, there are so many things to see in Barcelona in June. Trace the walkways of Gaudi, Picasso and Miro, visit the legendary Camp Nou or stay up all night in Barcelona’s bars, clubs and festivals. More sangria is always welcome…

1. Relax on Barcelona’s beach!

It was not a coincidence that National Geographic ranked Barcelona as the best beach city in the world. There are 9 beaches all along the city. The best part is that you can reach all of them by walk or metro… it’s totally worth the extra steps to find a place to lay down your towel.

If you are looking for a dynamic beach with bars for whiling away the afternoon, you will need to go south. Generally, the northern beaches are less crowded and better preserved. Despite those generalities, keep in mind that beaches in Barcelona are still “urban beaches”.

2. Traditional Festivals

Sant Joan festival

From a family reunion to insane parties on the beach, you really understand the enthusiasm of everyone, when, the next morning you’ll see the huge amount of firework’s marks everywhere.

On 23rd June, during the longest day of the year, inhabitants of Barcelona welcome the summer by enjoying festivities all night long.
Everyone try to find the best spot to make his own fire (beach) and enjoy the massive firework. Barcelona’s beaches are definitely the best places to share the conviviality of the celebration.
During this night, you might want to experience the “Coca de Sant Joan”, the original cake of this festival.

Ou Com’ Baila

From 15th June till 18th June, the celebration of Ou Com’ Baila is held in the city (the dancing egg !). Coming from a Christian tradition, this centenary celebration takes place on the Lord’s Day, 60 days after Easter.

The fountains are decorated with amazing floral composition. On the top of that, you can see eggs shells flying and turning over the water (good luck to understand how). This blend turns this celebration into something original and beautiful.

You can find those fountains in Barcelona’s cathedral, Ateneu Barcelona, Case de Ardiaca, the Gothic neighborhood and in other places all around the city. You must assist to the opening parade with giants and big headed carnival figures (starting point at the cathedral square).

3. Music festivals

Primavera Sound festival

This is a must do in June (31st may to 4th June)! Created in 2001, this festival is now considered as an obligated passage for artists coming to Spain and Europe. Over its 14 editions, the festival organized around 2500 concerts!
We can judge the important attraction of this festival with the massive amount of participants, almost 200 000!
Despite the important amount of visitors, the primavera Sound Festival is a responsible and sustainable festival, according to the certification of “A Greener Festival”.

So, what about the line up this year ? With at least 20 stages, there are of course a lot of artist performing, from the venue of Freddie Gibbs (Hip-hop), to Dam-Funk (Future Funk), Kamasi Washington (Jazz), or Radiohead, the program is lit !

Last year after-movie

Gathering plenty of different stages, showcases, parties and cultural approaches with talented artists, the festival will undoubtedly turns you upside down. More information on the official website.

Sonar Festival

In the middle of the month from the 15th — 16th, Sonar Festival takes place, celebrating advances in new media art.
In the area, Sonar is one of the oldest. Created in 1994, you will experience a unique kind of cultural events. They define themselves as:

“The link between creativity and technology, its commitment to being a global event and a meeting point for creative people from different disciplines and communities”.

Find out more about “Sonar by day”, where you will dance of course, but also discover exhibitions and SonarD, a big focus on the digital creative industries with the purpose of creating professional, business and networking opportunities.

Do not forget about night activites with “Sonar by night” where you can find artists like: Anderson. Paak, Cerrone, De La Soul, Eric Prydz, Justice, Nicolas Jaar, Thundercat, Soulwax

4. See Classic Barcelona

Gaudi building

Camp Nou

Such a classic to visit ! The stadium with all the installations of the mythic football club : FC Barcelona.

Pass through the museum in order to check all the records and learn how this club wrote its legend. Then, you must enter the arena and it is just stunning to see a stadium as massive as the Nou camp. Actually, did you know it is the biggest one in Europe? But to feel the ambiance of the club you have to hit a game!

Sagrada Familia

A chance that the Nomad House accommodation is literally in the area of the Sagrada Familia. Most of the time, people believe that walking around the cathedral and reading some historic facts will be enough to understand one the most important symbol of Barcelona.

But they are certainly wrong! The monument is huge… and complex. This looks like a scene from Lord of Rings and it can take around 2 hours to enjoy and understand this unbelievable church.

Don’t forget to book tickets online and schedule your visit, this one is always a popular visit with Barcelona’s travellers.

Las Ramblas

Las Ramblas is the vein pumping the harmony throughout Barcelona — a stroll down here will show you some of the best shops, street entertainers and cafes.

Two unmissable places while walking Las Ramblas :

  1. La Boqueria

A marvelous and really busy market where you will find everything you ever dreamed of. This world class market is frequented by locals, travellers and chefs — you never know who you’ll be sitting next to in the restaurant.

2. Tableau Flamenco

Down the street, meet the Tablao Flamenco Cordobes Barcelona. If you’re in Spain, you need to visit a flamenco show and this is the place to join the throngs and do it.

Magic Fountain

Built for the universal exposition in 1929, the magic fountain is a great original show. They called it “magic” because lights are dancing with water in a perfect synchronization of music rhythms and tempo.

Picasso Museum

This visit should be a tremendous moment of your stay. Not only because of the artwork of one the greatest artist of all time but also thanks to the originality of the place.

Indeed, this museum is set up in a series of medieval mansions from the 13th century. All in gothic style !

Park Güell

A Gaudi masterpiece ! This is an intricate, lifesize version of one of Gaudi’s masterpieces — the green spaces, mosaics and arches make this a maze of art to walk through.

This is another spot where you need to book your tickets in advance

Palau de la Música Catalana

Thanks again to Gaudi for this incredible building! Either plan a visit to check out the beauty and the story behind this architectural jewel or book a ticket to a night concert. Be ready to enter a new fantasy world.

This place was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997, offering an experience so magical that people felt immediately in love with this historical place.

Worried about there being too many distractions? Don’t be. If you stay with Nomad House, you’ll have a focused environment, access to Cloud Coworking, and a number of activities that revolve around work instead. Think brainstorms, workshops, and talks from Sonar+D (it’s all in the next blog post!).

Looking for somewhere to work, live and play whilst enjoying it all? Come and live in Nomad House this June. We’re staying a few minutes away from Sagrada Familia, and there are a few spaces left…
