Being a digital nomad in Vietnam

I’ve been coming to Vietnam as a digital nomad for 4 years. I’ve been all over Asia: S. Korea, China, Cambodia, Singapore, Thailand, but Vietnam has become my overall favorite (barely).

There are good and bad things about all the countries out here. Here are the pros and cons.

Pro: Easy visas

While Vietnam does not allow visa-free entry for most visitors, Visas are cheap and can be secured online before you arrive. You can also get visas for up to an entire year for either business or tourism. As a result, vietnam is a lot less hassle than Thailand. You can enter Thailand more easily, but if you want to stay long at all you end up having to do a bunch of airport hopping or paperwork. Having done both, Vietnam is way easier.

Pro: Internet

Vietnam is one of the most connected countries on earth. Everywhere has wifi. Every cafe, restaurant, dental office or just about any other permant structure has a wifi access point. And while the internet isn’t always blazing fast it’s usually very solid and more than serviceable. Video conferencing is sometimes a bit glitchy, but that’s it. Compared to Thailand (especially Bangkok), I found Vietnam’s internet vastly superior. You can also get fantastic internet service for a few dollars off the cell network.
