We recently sent out a 2016 Presidential Election poll. The results are in! 227 students responded, and the results — broken down by gender and U.S/international — are charted below:

Here are the highlights:

  • Roughly 1 in 4 GSB students took the survey; roughly 1 of 2 eligible voters will vote in this year’s Presidential Election.
  • 81 percent of those surveyed are voting for Hillary Clinton — but 40 percent of these students are voting for her because they oppose Donald Trump.
  • Of men voting for Hillary Clinton, 55 percent are doing so because they support her, and 45 percent because they oppose Donald Trump. For women, 70 percent support Clinton and 30 percent are voting against Trump.
  • Of US students voting for Hillary Clinton, 63 percent are doing so because they support her. For international students, that number drops to 51 percent.
  • 7 students are voting for Donald Trump — 2 because they support him as a candidate, 5 because they oppose Hillary Clinton. Only 1 of the 7 students is female.
  • Men and students from the US are more likely than women and international students to abstain from voting, vote for a third-party, or write in a candidate.
