Fury vs Wilder and the road Ahead for ‘The Gypsy King’.
This weekend we have witnessed one of the greatest Trilogy bouts in Heavyweight Boxing History. An all-out war between 2 heart fuelled WARRIORS, between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder. These 2 have had an amazing run through all 3 bouts, bringing the boxing world the utmost entertainment on the build ups and the utmost excitements in the fights, with each only getting better and better.
As a quick recap, the first bout was fought to a controversial Split Decision Draw, allowing Wilder to retain his WBC Heavyweight Title, in this bout we witnessed Tyson Fury literally rise from the dead in the 11th round, a moment that will be in the history books for the years to come. The following bout we had another extravagant performance, but this time in high favour of Tyson Fury who was able to utilise his weight and stunning boxing ability to take Wilder down in a TKO Victory in the 7th round, Fury taking the WBC Heavyweight title into his hands.
Now we proceed to the finale, the fight of the ages! We witnessed 2 warriors battling it out for true supremacy. In the opening round we were all amazed with the changes Wilder made to shutdown Fury and he rightfully did so. The following round was a close one, but Fury started to stop the tactics of Wilder and come the 3rd round, the game changing moment (or so we thought) appeared, Fury dropped Wilder onto the canvas with a huge right, with Wilder rising again but barely surviving the round! Following this is where it got CRAZY… Come Round 4, we’d seen Fury pick Wilder apart with his boxing ability, until Wilder came with one of the most devastating counter right hands we have seen to this date, knocking Fury right above the left eye and raddling his whole body, dropping him to the canvas in return… This shot seemed enough to end the fight; however, Fury was able to stand up very wobbly but a few moments later was knocked down once more, barely surviving but still managing to stand and finish the round.
These 2 rounds showed us that both fighters obtain the biggest hearts in the division, if not in all of boxing as we know it! From here on out, we had seen Fury slowly gain his footing over the rounds, with Wilder only losing his more and more as the time went by; Fury’s weight advantage really played its part. As rounds 5–10 went by, we’d seen mostly a 1-sided fight, in favour of Fury, however there were some amazing moments from Wilder where he was able to land some large shots; and as we now all know this here can change the fight in an instant! Fury was playing it much more carefully and using his weight and combination punching to outscore Wilder but come round 11 Fury came through with a remarkable finish. Off loading some quick 3–4 shot combos Fury wore Wilder down and took him to the corner, here Fury landed the largest right I have seen from him to this date, knocking Wilder to the canvas in a stunning fashion, ending the fight in a KO Victory. This bout is difficult to summarise in such a brief section, but I advise anyone to find a replay and see it for yourself!
Continuing from here, I am now curious to see what Fury will aim to do with the rest of his career, in the meantime this is the approach I believe will cement his legacy to be THE GREATEST HEAVYWEIGHT OF ALL TIME…
Following on, I believe Fury should finish his career with 5–6 more competitive bouts, against the likes of AJ, Usyk, Dillian Whyte and Derek Chisora (as Fury has already noted he’d like to finish with Chisora to give his good friend a final pay day, Respect!).
Following the bout with Wilder, the next in line is the WBC mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte. This bout here I believe would be quite an easy one for Fury, as I believe there is only 1 other guy who has any chance of beating a fit and healthy Fury, being Oleksandr Usyk. The bout with Whyte is unavoidable if Fury decides to continue on, so I believe his best approach would be to take some time off, relax as he deserves to and come a similar time to the AJ vs Usyk rematch, Fury vs Whyte should take place.
Following this bout which Fury should earn a victory for, he should then face the loser of the Usyk vs AJ rematch; yes, that’s right the loser first. In saying this, I’m looking at it from a reasonable approach for the winner of that bout, allowing them sometime to rest and maybe have 1 more tune up before stepping to Fury. In my opinion, I see Usyk winning the rematch, so ideally, we can see AJ vs Fury mid-2022. AJ vs Fury would be a great fight, one that I believe needs to happen regardless, as this fight would be one of the largest UK rivalries of this era. Again, I expect Fury to earn a victory here quite comfortably and continue onto the next.
Now here is where I see Fury’s biggest challenge, Usyk vs Fury, which I believe will be one of the most technical Heavyweight bouts of all time. A lot of people count Usyk out due to his size comparison to Fury, however I see Usyk to be one of the most skilled active fighters and truly believe if anyone has a gameplan to defeat Fury it would be Usyk. To be honest, choosing a winner here is beyond me as I love both and understand both guys have too much talent to show, so regardless of who earns the victory here, I would expect a rematch one way or another. If Fury can defeat Usyk in both bouts, then there is not a single doubt in my mind that he will now be crowned the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time, yes even topping the likes of Ali.
Following this, Fury should then stick to his words and give his good pal Derek Chisora one more large pay day and retire from the sport leaving his legacy sent in stone.
Regardless of if Fury decides to take a similar path to this, he will be deserving of a spot in the top 3 Heavyweights of all time as he currently stands… But knowing this man, he wants that number 1 spot. Whether Fury takes this path or not, I will be tuning into all his bouts as I typically do, because at the end of the day ‘There is only oneeeee Tyson Fury’.
