The much-awaited Trilogy of Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder is coming to fruition this weekend and boy was the Final Press Conference full of entertainment!

The Presser started quite relaxed and cool, with both fighters having calm and collected discussions with the Media and between each other. From the beginning, it seemed as if Wilder was ready to sit out of the discussion and allow his trainer Malik Scott to do the talking, as he had come in wearing headphones and as we are aware on the come up to this bout he has seemed to be over the media. However Wilder did end up engaging and it turned to be a great outcome. Fury on the other hand, seemed noticeably confident and a bit riled up, not taking a seat, and walking around his side of the stage placing in some comments to try and defer statements from Wilder.

Wilder has come into this fight with a whole new attitude; unlike his past fights, here he has been very calm and, in a sense, humble with how he expressed himself, although he still had his moments of attack on Fury and his camp. Wilder continues to believe Fury cheated in their last match-up, claiming he will “believe it to his grave” as he “saw it with his own eyes” and blocks out all the comment claiming he is lying or just ‘full of excuses’ as Fury notes. Beside from this, Wilder believes he is ready for redemption and has had tunnel vision on his camp blocking out all his surrounding problems to focus directly on the war ahead, having said he is in a “great state of mind”. Wilder states he has not stopped training since their last bout, understanding this fight is going down in the history books. Alongside his new trainer Malik Scott, the two discussed their newfound relationship, comparing it to a brother like bond. Malik says he has helped Wilder expand his arsenal of weapons, but not by teaching him new things, but making him utilise his already prominent skills which sometimes Wilder leaves out. Malik claims Wilder typically gets too focused on his devasting right hand and the remarkable KO power he has but understands that Wilder is capable of so much more and has successfully guided him into utilising the rest of his arsenal to make him a more complete fighter. There is a point where I believe Wilder really contradicts himself, stating ‘Silence is golden’ when asked about Fury cheating and why he hasn’t been more adamant on proving so, however Wilder was never silent when it came to the excuses he had during their last bout, blaming Fury, His trainer and even the WBC for multiple different reasons. Wilder ends his discussion by saying he is ‘feeling very violent’ coming into this bout, which is promising us we will be seeing an absolute war. Regarding Wilders corner, we clearly see Malik Scott has major respect for Fury and his Team but genuinely believes they have figured out how to overcome all of Fury’s tricks he brings to the table.

On the other side, Tyson Fury is seeming as his usual, bubbly self. Fury opens his side of the discussion by claiming he is always ready, and ‘the Tyson Fury Road show never ends’. Fury then says he is the one who has had to overcome the most out of all Heavyweights in boxing right now, relating to his mental health issues over the past year, but additionally his current battle with this every day. Fury opens about his personal problems at home, his newborn child having been awfully sick for the first few weeks of life, claiming to have to overcome this hurdle to set his focus back on the bout. In saying all of this, he claims he is just stating this to show that regardless of the issues he has, he will not come up with an excuse because he knows he will win this bout; extremely confident in himself as always. When the cheating acquisitions come to hand, Fury claims he does not care about the excuses Wilder made, “he should have stuck to one rather than 50, and maybe we’d believe you” Fury states, continuing by saying it just makes Wilder look weak. All the excuses and build up has made Fury adamant on KOing Wilder to show the world he is still the king of the division. Fury adds some remarks claiming Wilders team were the ones who, “Put the knuckle dusters under my wraps” and should be accusing them of helping him cheat, jokingly. Fury continues to note how he has overcome more than anyone and is still the only undefeated 2x World Heavyweight champion in history, again mentioning his mental health struggles and providing some wise words for those who do struggle with it themselves. Fury’s trainer Sugar Hill goes to speak about the condition of Fury and is confident Fury is always at top form, all they have really aimed to do is fine tune what he already excels at and ensure he is physically ready as ‘A ready Tyson Fury is Unbeatable’. They discuss about the relationship of Fury and Sugar Hill, Fury claiming that he finds it hard to find a trainer who can deal with him and his antics, but Sugar claims Fury is great and very easily trained, understanding they have a great bond. Sugar also gives credit to the Wilder and Malik Scott, claiming Scott is great at what he does, and they are ready for a great fight.

Towards the end of the presser, Kate Abdo suggests a final face off, but Bob Arum, Top Ranks CEO, doesn’t allow them to. Fury clearly isn’t happy as you see him asking Bob why they are refusing the face off, clearly quite eager to do so. The faceoff is void, but both fighters are allowed their last say of the conference, here is when we see it get rowdy. Fury and Wilder both start to throw words at each other, Wilder accusing Fury as a cheat, and claiming he is ready to ‘shed blood’ and Fury having fun claiming ‘I did cheat, I put 2 knuckle dusters in each hand and turbo jets on his feet’ coming in with some comedic comments with what seems to be a way to get into Wilders head. The two continue to yell over each other and it becomes rather difficult to hear what each is saying, but you hear both stating they’re going to knock each other out, Wilder claiming Fury has no KO power but Fury responding saying he already Knocked him out, they then continue to compare their history and resumes trying to stand above one another, this continues as an up and down discussion between the two and oh boy it was entertaining.

As the show ends, they again ask for a faceoff to finalise, but Bob again refuses to allow it, I assume he was expecting it to get really heated if they did so… and I agree 100%.

Will we see Repeat or Redemption?
