Write.as Is The Best Platform for Catholic Bloggers, But They Aren’t Using It

You might have noticed that I have been publishing Nonmonetized Together articles on write.as as well as Medium. Write.as is not a huge platform, but I feel like it is a perfect fit for Catholic bloggers, and it’s a shame they aren’t using it.

Write.as is a blogging platform not unlike Medium, but what makes it stand out is the lack of corporate restrictions involved. Write.as does not run ads and does not collect information from its users. All public posts are available to anybody for free, but the author does not need to make their posts public if they don’t want to — the website also allows unlisted, password-protected, and private blogs. You can start posting for as low as 6 USD per month.

Imagine being able to share the word of God as it was intended to be — without distractions from consumerist advertisers, without paywalls restricting the reader’s access, and without any gimmicks designed to take advantage of our attention spans.

And yet Catholic bloggers don’t seem to be taking advantage of this wonderful tool. While the website lacks a search bar, one can search hashtags by typing in the URL read.write.as/t/ followed by the hashtag. I have been having trouble finding any Catholicism-related posts using this method. There also don’t seem to be any Catholic-themed blogs listed on the website’s list of public authors.

I hope more of them start joining write.as instead of supporting through their blogs through advertisers. This could help people spiritually connect in a more faithful, authentic way while still using technology to accelerate the word of God.
