Nonfiction Crime Writing is a new Medium publication devoted to helping creators write about crime and criminal justice at both the specific and general levels.
Is “nonfiction crime” just a euphemism for “true crime”?
No. True crime is a specific genre of content that I’ve written about elsewhere. There’s more to nonfiction crime content than just true crime. Nonfiction crime content includes journalism about crime and criminal justice (exemplified by the work of the Marshall Project), crime blogging, and science journalism that covers crime and criminal justice research. Those are just some examples.
What is “nonfiction crime writing”?
As I define it and will use it in Nonfiction Crime Writing, the phrase refers to both the act/process/science/art/craft/whatever of producing nonfiction crime content and the content itself. While “writing” might only bring to mind books, articles, and blog posts, it also includes the written components of audio and video content, such as scripts for radio or television news…
