Professor and US Institute of Peace Senior Researcher, Shaazka Beyerle, relates the tale of how a chance encounter at a human rights conference sparked her interest in the area of nonviolent action. Thus she discusses inspiring interactions she has had with people taking action to better their communities, not because someone told them to, but because they inspired to improve the lives of those around them. One issue she is focused on is government corruption which affects the daily lives of citizens and communities worldwide. Thus she spoke of countless examples of nonviolent protests that have successfully pressured their governments to reform and get rid of corruption and other problems.
