A simple Idea for mitigating the effects of job loss caused by advancing automation.
I propose requiring companies that use automation to allocate a sliding scale percentage (increases with automation %) of their stock (both private or public) to some kind of not-for-profit National Pool or maybe the Social Security Administration, with the % of gross revenue thereby derived, distributed equally once a year to all Americans.
This way as our economy automates, the process of adapting gradually to Robot Dole, ie sometimes called universal income, both individually and as a culture, will happen organically over time. Regardless of the extent of automated production of goods and services, there will still be consumers with money to purchase what the robots make, thereby smoothly continuing a large consumer economy.
The sliding scale of stock ownership will prevent a shrinking corporate oligarchy of robot owners from progressively treating everyone else like surplus population to be dealt with accordingly.
